Day 15.5

It’s been a couple days since my last post, and I thought I should fill in the people who follow my blog for whatever reason that it is because there was a huge thunderstorm that passed Cleveland knocking out the power in many places including the boxing gym. Hence, I have not been boxing at the gym, rather I’ve been emulating the workouts on my own.

Today I ran the real boxers run, which is a five mile loop that spans across the run offs of lake Erie and has a great view of the Cleveland skyline. After about three miles, I felt great, I can definitely tell that running has become easier and much more enjoyable. I no longer think about the pain of running, but rather plan out the rest of my day and just feel good. Many call this the “runner’s high.” Endorphins are great.

After the run I did 100 push ups (50 normal 25 incline 25 decline), sit ups and oblique crunches. An interesting thing I tried was rather than simply lifting my shoulders up and curling my body for the sit up, I flexed my abs as if I were about to get hit in order to bring my body up. I managed to get 25 true form sit ups in and I feel they had a higher effect than 100 poor formed sit ups. I encourage you to try it some time, which I what I guess Sean T meant when he said to “keep your core tight” – unfortunately, I never understood until now.

Looking back these 15 days of boxing training with Coach Mike, I’ve learned a couple things. Many of the times I did not want to go to the gym, I kind of dreaded it. But when I left the gym, and while I was actually going to work, it wasn’t bad, it was really enjoyable and I felt amazing after every work out. The amount of self satisfaction I get from a workout is a personal victory.

I don’t know what you get from viewing my blog, but I thank you and wish that you are getting the best out of life. Keep on working hard like I know you do, until next time!
